Happy Belated Birthday Mango!
Yesterday was Mango’s 12th (est.) birthday. Since we haven’t had him from day 1, we aren’t 100% sure how old he is or when his birthday actually is but his vet estimated his age and I made his birthday the day that he began his new and much improved life with us.
Today, I had the extreme pleasure of dropping $110 on another vet appointment for him — another recheck for the plucking on his chest and he has an infection so I get to joyously give him antibiotics for 2 weeks. I hope that I can report back in 14 days that I still have all 10 fingers on my 2 hands. But, we’ll see.
I also had the pleasure of spending $180 on a last minute vet appointment for Shadow who has a urinary infection and crystals in his urine. Thankfully the crystals aren’t causing a blockage but they could so I need to switch the cats food to something that they immensely hate (Wellness). I could buy prescription food from the vet, but, well, I always seem to forget to buy food and I really need the flexibility of buying a food from a store that is open from 9-9 and not a vets office that has much more limited hours. I’m probably a pretty crappy pet owner for not buying the prescription food since they like it a lot better than the Wellness, but I guess it will just help the weight I’m trying to make them loose. If they don’t like the food, maybe they won’t pig out on it so much, ‘eh?
I did come across a homeopathic concoction that should hopefully help with Mango’s skin. It is a mixture of Chickweed Extract and Canendula Spray. The Chickweed Extract is supposed to help with itching and the Canendula Spray is supposed to be soothing and help with inflammation. I pray to God that this works because I have no more money left to spend at the avian vet.

I know
But the homeopathic spray seems to be helping so that’s good! Plus Mango had an ingrown feather that couldn’t break the skin (because he has scar tissue on his chest from all the picking he did) and the vet was able to pull it out so that helps too.
And, Shadow is doing great too! He won’t let me come up to him so he’s back to normal

I think our animals are related. Let me know if you need any tips on getting antibiotics down!

Fortunately, the cat is a food whore and I can sneak it into a piece of lunchmeat or liver sausage. He’s the only one of the four that I could that with though.
Mango is a little trickier but he’s being good and letting me shove it down his throat. It’s banana flavored, and he loves banana’s, so that helps
Plus, I think he realizes that I’ll win, I always do, so there is no point in fighting!

Hey! Saw your comment about my bird, Emma. Thanks for all of the advice. She is a white eyed conure and we have made some progress. She is already in her new cage and we honestly would have waited to transfer her, but her old cage was not in good shape. It was small and had rust on the bottom and the door was held closed with clips. It came with her from her previous owner. Come to find out, the previous owner used to let her out all day long and have free reign of the house. We can’t do that because we aren’t home all day long. We seem to have found that she really enjoys the spare bedroom as “her space” and once she starts screaming, we put her in there and she is quiet. We are willing to work with her.. We’ve only had her not even a week yet, so I think the little progress made so far is a good start. Thanks again for your advice and encouragement!

I think we need some pictures of poor Mango. Just saying.
