Christmas, Finally

Posted in christmas, the cats on January 1, 2008 by Danielle

Well, it’s probably time I gave the low-down on our Christmas festivities.  I’ve been feeling quite lazy and haven’t been in the mood for blogging.  And well, I guess, now is as good a time as any to write something  :)

Jay and I are quite the ba humbug people when it comes to decorating.  Our Christmas tree is 4 feet tall and we leave it decorated year round.  We store it in our attic with a black garbage bag over it.  It takes 10 minutes to set-up and 10 minutes to put away.  BEST.THING.EVER.

Our Christmas started on December 22 (the Sunday before Christmas) and we celebrated with Jay’s family.  It was so nice to see everyone and celebrate without it being crazed and rushed.  When it came time to open presents, we realized that we had forgotten one of the gifts (for Autumn, our niece) so Jay went home to get it.

We spend Christmas Eve with Jay’s extended family.  Every year, his cousins Eric & Amber host a party.  We were somewhat hesitant about going this year because we KNEW we would get the “baby question” and didn’t want to deal with it.  To our amazement though, not one person asked us if we were pregnant or when we were having kids.  I wonder if it had something to do with me walking in the door with a Miller Lite in my hand?

Jay and I don’t have a set tradition as to when we do our gifts with each other.  Sometimes we do them Christmas Eve and sometimes we do them Christmas morning.  This year, he was tired so we exchanged gifts Christmas morning.  We did let the “zoo” open their gifts — yes, we are the crazy people that buy our animals Christmas presents!  :)

I bought Jay a book on motorcycle rides in SE Wisconsin, a Harley Davidson ornament and tickets to the Bears-Saints game.  Jay got me an hour massage gift certificate, a Columbia Fleece jacket and a shirt from Woodstock Harley Davidson.

Christmas is always spent with my family.  We are with my mom in the morning/afternoon and my dad in the evening.  Once again, my mom spoiled us rotten!  I’m very much looking forward to redeeming our gift certificate to use towards a weekend away.

I do think the highlight of the day was watching my sister trying to master the Heely’s that her husband bought her for Christmas — I’ll have to upload video later as I need to play with it to rotate it.

Before going to my Aunt and Uncles house, we stopped by to visit with my dad and give him our gifts.  He has not been feeling well and decided to stay home.  I was very happy to see that my grandfather was there – he had been having some health problems over the last 18 months and wasn’t always keen on leaving his house, even for spending time with family.

As always, we had a wonderful time at John and Debbie’s and really enjoyed seeing everyone.  Unfortunately, life gets chaotic and hectic and we don’t get to see everyone as often as we would like.  We stayed longer than Jay would have liked since we live an hour away and with all the excitement of the day, the next morning comes way to quick and makes for a long day at work.

I am very fortunate and have amazing family and friends.  Christmas time makes me appreciate everyone all the more.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE getting gifts (who doesn’t!) but I really do enjoy and cherish the time I spend with everyone.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Christmas

I just bought Jay an AWESOME Christmas gift…unfortunately, he reads this on occasion so I can’t “spoil” it.  I’m just so damn excited that I had to tell someone.

He better f’ing love it  :)

Oh, and can I pat myself on the back and say that I’m 100% DONE with my Christmas shopping.  Now I just need to get to wrapping…blech!

How Old…

Posted in bff, christmas, nothing important on November 26, 2007 by Danielle

How old were you when you found out about Santa Clause?  If you have kids, how old were they when you told them about Santa Clause?  What did you tell your kids or how did you find out when you were a kid?

My best friend is struggling with this right now.  Her son, who is 8 years old, is quite curious and she doesn’t know how to handle it.  Last year she got “busted” with presents in her trunk.  She lied and said they were for a friend of hers.  This year he said something about why were she and grandma under the tree last year, putting down presents.  She lied, again, and said that they were putting down presents that they gave to other people.

So…is 8 years old too young to hear the truth?  If not, how do you tell an 8 year old without ruining the surprise for other kids (i.e. classmates) that may not yet know?
