Who gets called for jury duty the week before Christmas? Why me, of course. Ummm, yeah. Can you “hear” the sarcasm excitement in my “voice”?
In reality though, I am all for people doing their civic duty. As long as it’s not me.
I do get for the people involved, the decision that we come to, is a big and important thing. Our decision could ultimately impact their life. But honestly, I really don’t want that kind of power, never have, never will.
Fortunately, my stint with jury duty is over. I had to show up at the Courthouse at 8:15am. It was so nice to be able to leave my house at 8am and be where I needed to be, 5 minutes later (today made me hate my 55 minute commute to work that much more).
I had to sign in and go sit in a room with maybe 80 other potential jurors. I spent 20 minutes watching a lame video where they tried to convince me that jury duty is great. After that, we were told that there were only 2 trials on the books for this week so we would all probably be excused after today. YES! About 2 hours later and 60 pages of my book read, we were told that the 2 cases were settled and we could all go home. I’m also $8 richer than had I gone to work. Yep, I got paid $2.67 for every hour I was sitting in the room, reading my book. Does it get much better than that?
Hopefully, this will be my one and only experience with jury duty. Yep, I’m a bad citizen like that.
